Sunday Rewound – Preview Edition

September 8, 2008

After countless months, days, hours, and minutes of redesigning, cleaning, renovating, training, and PRAYER, had our first preview experience. God still amazes me at how he can use a group of people to serve a divine purpose. I know that is how it is supposed to be, but with so many churches stagnate or dying, to see a church willing to live out God’s plan is very refreshing. Words can not express the joy and pride I felt as I watched all the service teams execute their jobs with precision and energy. Here is a brief recap of the day:

·      Service team meeting began at 9:30 as I met with all team members that would be serving that day. A good friend of mine, and lead usher, told me there were 40 people (including children) at this meeting. 40 people willing to serve God by serving others…truly remarkable.

·      Immediately after the meeting, teams broke up and began to get ready. The energy was unbelievable as there was an air of excitement that was evident to all. Hospitality tents were set up, guest services kiosk was ready, and countless other things were being checked and rechecked. A culture of excellence was present.

·      As it got closer to time for the experience to begin, people began to come. Not families of those in attendance, but people who did not go to church anywhere. They were our target. New, unbelieving people, that needed a church to meet them where they were. I talked to at least 15-20 people that were new, and not one of them was attending a church anywhere. That means all are potentially retainable. We could be their home for spiritual growth.

·      Arron and the Band did an great job with music. Sound was great, media was on point, and from some of the comments afterwards, many people were surprised that music like that could be found in a church!

·      Pastor Brian’s message was kicked off by him welcoming the West Campus to  to which everyone at the midtown campus (via video) screamed, and for the first time I felt like the two campuses were connecting as one. A true new testament church…

·      At the close of the message, I invited people to go on the journey towards Jesus with us, and with that 4 people gave their lives to Christ! 3 of whom had never been to our church before. Was it all worth it…without a doubt.

·      All in all, with only a grassroots marketing campaign, and basically word of mouth promotion, we had 70 people in attendance. Very happy with the turnout due to the fact it is only our first preview. It only points to great things ahead…

As I reflect on this great day, a couple of things stand out. First, God is amazing in how he orchestrates life paths. Bringing Brian Hunter and myself together to take on the idea of multi-site church was His plan all along we just did not know it when we met a couple of years ago. Second, when God’s people function AS the church instead of AT the church, unbelievable things take place.

I am very proud of all the people that made yesterday possible, but lets make it better. You didn’t really think we were just going to take some time off because of one good day, did you? Here we go…
